Villa Alemana and the family

We travelled to Chile to attend the wedding of Carola and nephew Neil.  Many of us stayed with Carola's parents in their home in Villa Alemana.  The town was an eye opener in many respects.

Front gate of Carola’s parents home in Villa Alemana - Note the bags of rubbish on the wall to prevent dogs from getting at them.  Neil going out of the gate to the road. Wire connections found all over Villa Alemana - Villa Alemana. I am surprised that people are not electrocuted. These wire connections are found all over the towns and cities in Chile. Wonderful veggies! - In Villa Alemana vegetables for sale on the street. Look at the size of the artichokes! Near lunch time one also finds bags of cooked vegetables for sale on the street.
Kids will be kids! - Villa Alemana – kids on their way home for lunch. In Chile kids go home for lunch between 1 and 4.  Kids wear uniforms but in school they also have to wear a white lab-type coat in class over their uniforms. It was strange to see kids in school uniform smoking but that seemed to be fine in Chile. First-world transport! - Villa Alemana – suburban trains come every 8 minutes – going to Valparaiso. The trains are 4 coaches long and clean inside and out, and heated. There is piped classical music on the stations. Most photogenic! - Carola and Neil on the train. They had been married in a civil ceremony earlier in the week.
Quality transport! - Low backs. Clean train. The doors open only if you press a button. Gordon and Wendy
Having a bite to eat.

Love between mother and daughter - Carol and her mother, Pelu.  Lovely warm mother whose English was much better than my non-existent Spanish.
Lunch at Villa Alemana - Harvey, Carola, Neil, Debbie, Katie, Rick and our Katie showing her muscles. Carola’s mother loved cooking great meals. Talking! - Wendy and Carola’s mother after lunch. In Chile lunch is the main meal. Marvellous dish made by Carola’s mother - For meals on the wedding day. Made the day before so she had time for the preparations. Layers of vegetable between layers of pancake.
Left over from lunch eaten when we arrived home - Rice and stuffed big baby marrow. Huge casseroled chicken - Lunch. Harvey, Carola’s dad, Claudio, and Debbie.
