Pomaire

Small town near Santiago where people do pottery work in order to try and make a living.  A must for any visitor!  The restaurants in the town are famous for their cazuela and empanadas.

O Sole mio! (in Spanish) - Being serenaded by a local Pavarotti. Very pleasant, but the company were more interested in the drinks than the song. Decisions, decisions!  - Still waiting for our drinks and perusing the menu’s. Breads and the accompanying salsa were delicious. Spicy! Yum! Smile for the camera?  - Little Katie looking a trifle vacant.
Looking for a “Fair Trader” - Wendy finds the mother of the fellow pictured in the pamphlet which she had come across in New Zealand. Grass fan with veggies and fruit - Such intricate work and detail. About 15cm from top to bottom. Fascinating. Potter at work - With his left hand he was throwing a pot. The tin in front is to dip his hands in water to keep clay wet, whilst his right hand adds more clay which is kept damp under the plastic!
Shop of the Fair Trader in Pomaire - Wendy in the shop of the Fair Trader. Self-portrait (unintentional) - The walls of the dwellings, before the earthquake of 1985, were constructed of planks, straw and mud.
